Our Story

Our story

The Nest Collective began with a simple idea – that every baby in Aotearoa deserves to start life with the essentials they need to flourish. What started small has grown into a nationwide community of crafters, donors and supporters helping over 1,000 whānau each year.

The Beginning

When a nationwide baby charity closed its doors, many families were left without access to much-needed support. Seeing the gap this would leave, Natalia set out to create something new. In the middle of a pandemic, she gathered a small group of volunteers who shared a simple belief: every baby deserves the best start in life. Together, they began collecting, sorting and redistributing baby essentials to those who needed them most.

The Nest Collective is Born

In February 2021, The Nest Collective officially launched. Our wonderful communities donated baby items and local organisations partnered with us to identify whānau needing support. Branches in Auckland, Gisborne, Kāpiti, Wellington and Christchurch all connected whānau with free baby packs.

2023

Growing the Nest

The Nest Collective expanded with the launch of our Otago Southland branch, extending support to whānau across Otago and Southland. As the need grew, so did the collective of volunteers, donors and community partners helping make a difference.

Five Years On

Five years on, The Nest Collective supports more than 1,000 babies and whānau across Aotearoa every year. What began with a handful of volunteers and a determination to help has grown into a nationwide network of branches, volunteers, donors and community partners. Five years on, we remain committed to ensuring every baby starts life with the essentials they need to flourish, and every whānau feels supported during the early days of parenting.
